Bens interest in DairySmart stems from his masters which he completed in 2019, studying emerging infectious diseases which affect the health of both humans and animals globally. Antimicrobial resistance is one such disease and Ben is excited to be a part of the Dairysmart team and technology, which drives the appropriate stewardship and prescribing of antibiotics and ultimately will help to reduce the development of antimicrobial resistance in dairy herds worldwide.
Ben has been a large animal dairy and wildlife veterinarian since graduating from Massey University in 2000. For the past seven years Ben has been the managing director of a large mixed vet practice in Canterbury. He is an elected member and deputy chair of the NZ Veterinary Council and has had leadership roles in the NZ Veterinary Association special interest groups. Ben is a member of the Institute of Directors, holds several directorship roles and has an interest and experience in strategic planning and governance.
